Brain Rays – Dobwalls Gateway Zone Vol. I-IV

Brain Rays’ debut cassette release ‘Music for Abandoned Beach Parties’ caught the ear of Rob da Bank, Annie Mac and The Wire Magazine with its grainy funk and house rhythms. Since then he has gone on to soundtrack various film projects, including Rhys Chapman’s acclaimed film Wonderkid.

A series of off-kilter dance tracks intended for “playing in DJ sets and driving around in the cleanshirt whip”. Dobwalls Gateway Zone features guest appearances from Scottish techno legend Neil Landstrumm, Californian B-Boy/host with the most Dan Jose (UNITY) and Bizarre Rituals collaborators Stoogie Houzer and Cape Khoboi.

Some nice things people have said…

Parris Mitchell (Dance Mania) – “I really dig that ‘I Feel For You’ joint. I downloaded it. I will play this for sure!”

Jon Dasilva (Hacienda/MAM/I Love Acid) – “Loving the Dobwalls Gateway Zone tracks from Brain Rays…super steamy and saturated in sex…”

Paul Blackford (Body Control/Militant Science/WéMè Records) – “Really liking the minimal vibes on these 2 tracks. I think ’Zombie Ken’ is my favourite out of the 2 though, I was nodding my head and tapping my feet. ‘I Feel For You’ is nice and I love the spring reverb in this one and the cyborg chaka Khan vocal samples. Both on a late night at fabric in the early 00’s vibe.”

Chrissy (Nite Owl Diner/Razor N Tape/?) – “Haha these tracks are weird as hell.. I love them! ‘Zombie Ken’ is especially doing it for me.”

Severino Panzetta (Horse Meat Disco) – “C R A ZY YEAH YEAH”

Riffs (Colour Blind/Fullfridge) – “Proper sick m8. Even my hard-to-impress younger brother was like “yooooo” when I played it.”
